How Microsuction works

When you visit us, we will record your medical history about your ears and will explain the procedure to you in detail.  The Nurse will answer any questions you may have.

  • The nurse will show you the microsuction equipment.

  • You will be asked to lie on a bed for the procedure.

  • While looking in your ears using a head microscope and a tiny suction tube, wax and debris will be gently removed from your ears.

  • The equipment does not touch the eardrum at any stage.

During the procedure, you will be kept informed at all times about what is happening. With minimal fuss the removal, cleaning and care will happen. This is a safe and relaxing procedure.

Considerations

Earwax in children

Like adults, children naturally produce earwax.  Sometimes they have too much wax and it can be removed by our nurse using microsuction.

Available to all over the age of 3.

Earwax in older adults

Most cases of conductive hearing loss in older adults can be caused by earwax build-up.  This makes sounds seem muffled.  Wearing a hearing aid can add to wax blockage.  The team has extensive experience with older people and will be able to comfortably remove their earwax.
